A Natural Alternative to Dentures

A Natural Alternative to Dentures

If you wear dentures and are tired of worrying about an, “Accidental,” fall out, schedule an appointment with your dentist who will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for Dental Implants.

People who wear dentures know how important the correct fit is, and if you have recently lost weight or haven’t had your dentures adjusted lately, you could be at risk of losing your false teeth the next time you take a bite out of an apple or dig into a juicy steak.

Complete dentures are suitable for people who have lost all or most of their teeth, while your dentist uses a partial denture if you have one or just a few missing teeth. Partial dentures help prevent the adjoining teeth from changing their position.

Thanks to modern 21st century dentistry, you do not have to resort to partial or full dentures, and that is where Dental Implants come in.

According to the American Academy of Periodontology, or Perio.org, Dental Implants are artificial tooth roots that are used to replace missing teeth. These blades, cylinders, or screws are placed in your jaw as a base for a bridge or replacement tooth. Dental implants are perfect for people who have lost a tooth due to injury, or periodontal disease.

There are two types of Dental Implants, Superiosteal, and Endosteal.

Superiosteal, or on the bone, involves the placement of metal posts on top of the jaw so that the framework of the metal posts protrude through your gum in order to hold your new prosthesis. If you are unable to wear dentures for whatever reason, superiosteal implants could be the answer. Patients with minimal bone height may also be good candidates for on the bone or subperiosteal Dental Implants.

The most common type of Dental Implant is in the bone. Called Endosteal, these Dental Implants consist of cylinders, blades, or screws that are placed directly into your jawbone with each surgically placed implant holding your new artificial tooth or teeth. People who have removable dentures or bridges find that these types of implants are the perfect alternative.

If you would like more information regarding Dental Implants, schedule an appointment with your dentist who will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for Superiosteal or Endosteal Dental Implants.
